First, Simon Treviranus and Phil Mechetuk from the National AccessAbility Week organizing committee chat with Devon about events planned for the special week which runs from May 26 to June 1.  Next, we chat with Lynda Todd about Active Together’s hectic summer schedule.

We begin by chatting with three volunteers from Parkinson Canada – Joe Vankoeverden from the Peterborough Chapter, Sandie Jones and Maria Mariano from Toronto. Next, we chat with Christine Annett, one of the fundraising ambassadors for The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.

First, we speak with Steve Scally, Lions District A3’s Chair of the “Gift of Life” Program. Devon then speaks briefly with her neighbour Peter Day, who is hoping for a double lung transplant. Lastly, we chat with Wyatt Harvey, who participated in the recent Canadian National Blind Hockey Tournament, about his life here in Peterborough and his career as a hockey player with a visual impairment.

We begin by listening to a presentation on how a new app makes the continuous glucose monitoring system, called The Freestyle Libre, accessible to people with low or no vision who have diabetes. Next, Simon reads an article about MPP Dave Smith’s announcement of a children’s team from Peterborough participating in a special needs hockey tournament in Toronto.

First, we speak with Andy Frank, manager of AMI Audio (Accessible Media Incorporated) about the Canadian National Blind Hockey Tournament taking place this weekend. Second, Devon speaks by phone with Maureen Summers certified low-vision therapist about the causes, symptoms and treatment of glaucoma.

We begin this jam-packed episode by listening to a brief address given to the local chapter of the Canadian Council of The Blind by Carlos, a trainer from Leader Dogs in Rochester, Michigan who was in town to provide a client with home training.  Next, co-host Simon Treviranus celebrates March as Engineering Month by recapping an engineering symposium which was held in Peterborough last October.  We follow that with a demonstration of the Google Home Mini.  Finally, because March is also Liver Month, we hear a repeat of an interview that co-host Devon Wilkins did with Dr. Morris Sherman of Liver Canada.

First, Devon and Simon take us to a send-off party for three Special Olympic athletes headed to Abu Dhabi. Next, we celebrate International Women’s Day by speaking with the dynamic Hayley Burrett about her involvement in the community.
